Friends of the Children’s goal is to break the cycle of generational poverty for the highest priority youth in our community through a 12 ½ year program that emphasizes development of socioemotional assets and the skills to succeed in postsecondary and career. We are seeking a talented Group Programming Manager to join our diverse team of dedicated and passionate professionals.

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Program Director, the Group Programming Manager plays a critical role in our mission and strategic goals, ensuring high quality group-based programming that complements the 1:1 mentoring relationships at the core of the Friends model. Essential Functions:

  • Serve as member of the Program Leadership Team, driving the vision for, and facilitation of, group programming offered to approximately 400 program children and youth.
  • Supervise 3-4 professional mentors. Ensure adequacy of time spent with children, quality and diversity of activities, and fulfillment of administrative responsibilities by meeting with Friends, reviewing daily activity journals, expense reports and time sheets.
  • Build collaborative relationships with staff and young people to enhance and support the established vision and direction of group programming.
  • Build systems of continuous improvement through youth and Friend feedback, review of data and best practices, and program results. Ensure youth and Friend input is reflected in program offerings, using Youth Program Quality Assessment (YPQA) as a tool to meet objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with others to integrate post-secondary preparation and job readiness elements into group programming.
  • Manage and continuously improve curriculum and community partnerships necessary to deliver effective group programming for youth development and enrichment activities.
  • Manage a programmatic budget distributed across multiple areas of emphasis, including but not limited to events, summer programs, weekly programming, youth training, and leadership opportunities.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; demonstrated organizational and time management, delegation and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with prioritizing and integrating youth voice in organizational objectives; demonstrated understanding of positive youth development principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships with children, adolescents, colleagues, volunteers and programming partners.
  • Experience and skills in youth facilitation from a relationship-based approach that prioritizes the ability to mobilize youth and get young people excited.
  • In depth knowledge of adolescent development and best known methods to facilitate healthy development; knowledge of the effects of early childhood trauma on youth development.
  • Effective program management and youth supervision skills; ability to lead others to achieve necessary results.
  • Experience managing diverse partnerships and stakeholders to meet both programmatic and funding needs.
  • Experience using a solution-focused, strength-based approach to navigating challenges and meeting objectives.
  • Spanish fluency preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings, and occasionally weekends, in alignment with program schedule.

Education Required and/or Experience Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in related field, minimum of two years’ experience working with adolescents.
  • Minimum of one year experience managing, implementing, and designing group programming.
  • Training or experience in Youth Program Quality Assessment (YPQA) preferred.
  • Experience applying a racial equity lens preferred.

Salary range: $44,000 - $50,000, dependent on experience and qualifications
