Position Objective:   

We are seeking a talented Event & Volunteer Manager to join our diverse team of dedicated and passionate professionals.  The Development team at Friends of the Children is large, hardworking and raises over $6 million to support operating expenses each year.  The Event & Volunteer Manager will engage in all events for Friends of the Children and work to ensure we maximize the impact and experience of our volunteers. The Event & Volunteer Manager must understand, support and promote the organization’s mission, vision, values and principles.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Event Management

  • Manage the Holidays with the Trail Band concert event; including ticket sales, coordination with the venue and the talent, oversee promotional materials, work with speaker, etc.;
  • Manage the Bowl-a-Thon; including recruitment of bowlers, working with the venue, managing the online fundraising platform;
  • Support Friend Raiser; including managing building logistics, working with vendors & permitting, securing volunteers and helping with building layout;
  • Manage Friends of the Children community celebrations and oversee event logistics, planning and committee coordination and volunteer recruitment;
  • Manage third party and “special” events such as golf tournaments, wine tasting, house parties, and support cause marketing efforts.
  • Recruit, train and oversee volunteers:
  • Create and follow volunteer management policies and procedures;
  • Utilize a volunteer management platform to track volunteers, needs, skills, hours, etc.;
  • Collaborate with Development team to create meaningful volunteer opportunities for corporate partners;
  • Develop and execute volunteer recognition programs;
  • Recruit and manage internal (staff) volunteers for Friends of the Children fundraising events as well as community celebrations.
  • Triage and delegate general requests for information about supporting Friends;
  • Maintain confidential information in a sensitive and appropriate manner;
  • Other related duties or projects as requested.

Volunteer & Community Engagement:

  • Recruit, train and oversee volunteers:
  • Create and follow volunteer management policies and procedures;
  • Utilize a volunteer management platform to track volunteers, needs, skills, hours, etc.;
  • Collaborate with Development team to create meaningful volunteer opportunities for corporate partners;
  • Develop and execute volunteer recognition programs;
  • Recruit and manage internal (staff) volunteers for Friends of the Children fundraising events as well as community celebrations. 

General Development

  • Triage and delegate general requests for information about supporting Friends;
  • Maintain confidential information in a sensitive and appropriate manner;
  • Other related duties or projects as requested.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage several issues/tasks concurrently, meet deadlines, and communicate status effectively.
  • Must be detail oriented, and enjoy organizing others.  Ability to follow up and assure accountability for follow through from others.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as to function successfully as a team player.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Excellent organizational and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to and resolve questions or problems as they arise.
  • Demonstrated ability to draft/produce accurate correspondence and reports.
  • Event management experience.
  • Familiarity with The Raiser’s Edge and Greater Giving (or equivalent).
  • Ability to work in diverse environments.  Ability to cultivate and sustain relationships and work effectively with a wide variety of constituencies, including staff, program children, organizational supporters, current and potential donors, and Board members. Ability to represent the organization to a wide variety of audiences in a professional, effective manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must consistently demonstrate excellent judgment, tact and problem solving skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), various Internet programs, desktop publishing applications, and able to operate standard office equipment.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

Education and Experience: 

Minimum of bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.  Two to four years’ experience in event management, or non-profit development desired. Volunteer management experience preferred. 

Salary Range:

$42,000 to $52,000
